I try to get a trip in every six months or so.

In the last 18 months, I did a NJ to OR run on a time crunch (had to make it out to drop off my friend's car and then be back in PA for work inside of 6 days). Then a 1,200 lazy tour over the course of a week from the east coast to St. Louis on the bike. Earlier this summer, I looped northeast through the rust belt and spent the last two days bombing down roads in the NRQZ - south out of Pittsburgh, through WV and VA before going back west into Tennessee.

Now I think I want to do the American Southeast. Maybe a run from Louisville to New Orleans, then east along the gulf coast and into North Carolina?

What do you guys think? What's worth hitting in this general area? Timing ideas?

There are some amazing roads in NW Arkansas, if you want to venture that far west.

So maybe south out of St. Louis through Mark Twain National Forest, skirt Little Rock and then rejoin I-55 into New Orleans?

Some of the roads in the Mark Twain forest are great, but do your self a favor and keep heading southwest from there. 341 north of Mountain View is great, and pretty much all the roads in and around the Ozark National Forest are fantastic (these are the ones we keep going back for). Talimena Drive is also one to hit, at some point. http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/

North Carolina has awesome roads up in the mountains. The beaches are nice, as well. Especially in the fall.
